Rusty Foxglove (Digitalis cariensis)
The Rusty Foxglove belongs to the Scrophulariaceae Family. It reaches between 40 and 60 cm in height and its’ leaves are simple and have no leaflets. The flowers are yellow and the corollas are small, tube-shaped and form clusters. All the species of this family have flowers that differentiate largely from each other. As a result the number and the shape of the stamens are very different (1).
It is a bi-annual or perennial species (2).
It is native to temperate and hot regions (1). It prefers well-drained soil, a large quantity of sunlight and some shade.
It is found all over the Balkan countries, especially in Hungary and Romania (2). Within Greece it can be found only on the island of Ikaria (3).
It is not mentioned on the IUCN Red List (4). It is not threatened in Greece and the EU (2).
