Bell Flower (Campanula celsii)

The Campanula genus is a part of Campanulaceae family and the genus contains around 300 species. Closely related species include C. rupestris, C. Andrewsii and C. topalianan. All are very similar and they are difficult to tell apart. The leaves of Campanula celsii are lyre-shaped and they have a large end-lobe, the basal leaves are irregularly lobed. The flowers are bell shaped and blue or lilac, they have fine hairs on the outside and are between 18 and 30 mm long (1).
It is a biennial plant and in its first year it forms a basal leaf rosette. In its second year it produces flowering stems. It flowers between April and July (1).
It habituates limestone rock crevices (1).
It can be found in southeast Greece from Mt Parnes to Euboia (1).
It is endemic to Greece (2).
