Hawksbeard (Crepis fraasii)

Crepis fraasii belongs to the Family Asteraceae and contains the subspecies C. f. mungieri. The genus Crepis contains 70 different species which can be found only in Europe (1). It has pinnate leaves and the basal leaves are hairy, lobed or lyre shaped. They have a large egg like and toothed end lobe. The upper leaves are small and resemble bracts (leaf like parts of a plant located under the flower). Its petals are slim and many make up the flower. The flowers are small, yellow with a reddish external colour (2).
It is a perennial species (3) that blooms in June and July (2).
It can be found in alpine or subalpine places (2).
It’s a native species of Crete and Carpathos (2).
It is not mentioned on the IUCN Red List (4).
