Mediterranean Crown Vetch (Coronilla valentina)

Coronilla valentina can be found within the Family Fabaceae (1). It is a shrub, usually over 50 cm in height (2). Coronilla is a genus that contains annual, perennial and herbaceous shrubs and small trees. The leaves are pinnate, with two to three pairs of leaflets (1). They are bluish-green in colour (3). The flowers are small, yellow and bell-shaped; they are found in clusters of four to twelve (1).
Coronilla scorpioides is a perennial plant. It usually blooms from March to June, although it has been known to bloom earlier (3).
Mediterranean Crown Vetch is widely grown in gardens (3), in the wild it is found in rocky places, such as cliffs (3), as well as in cultivated and fallow fields (1).
It is found from south eastern France through to Albania (3) and Greece (1).
It is not mentioned on the IUCN Red List (4).
