Kohlrauschia (Kohlrauschia velutina)

Kohlrauschia velutina belongs to the family Caryophyllaceae. It is a short plant with bright green leaves which are linear in shape. It has tiny pink flowers, the petals of which are lobed, which are veined with red through their centre. The flower head is surrounded by pointed, dry bracts, only one flower opens on a plant at a time (1).
It is an annual or biennial species that blooms from February to May (1).
It grows in grassy and rocky hill slopes, sandy places and garrigue scrubland (1).
It is a species widespread in the Mediterranean region (1).
It is not mentioned on the current IUCN Red List (2).
