Strawflower (Helichrysum stoechas)

Strawflower belongs to the Family (1). It is a garrigue plant (1) with white and thick hair. Its leaves are alternate and linear shaped. It is species with many branches that can reach 50 cm in height. The flower head is yellow color and spherical in shape. Many flower heads are usually noticed forming thick corymbs (a flat topped cluster of flowers). The flowers are often used ornamentally, in flower arrangements (2).
It is a perennial species which blooms from April to August (1).
It is associated with garrigue scrublands, yet can also be found in rocky and stony places (1) as well as sandy cliffs (3).
It is found on the Iberian Peninsula, in southeastern Africa, in east Turkey (3) and in Greece (1). This species is not found in Cyprus (3).
It is not mentioned on the IUCN Red List (4).
